Employment Law Liverpool: Minimum Wage

The national minimum wage is the minimum amount per hour that can be paid to workers in the UK who are over compulsory school leaving age. As an employer you must pay all of your employees at least the minimum wage and as an employee you are entitled to be paid the minimum wage.


As of October 2012 the UK minimum wage rates are:

  • For employees aged 21 and over - £6.19
  • For employees between 18 and 20 - £4.98
  • For employees between 16-17 -£3.68
  • Apprentice- £2.68
